AZgreys Mailing List Information

Purpose:

The AZgreys mailing list is a public forum for adopters and potential adopters of retired racing greyhounds in the state of Arizona. There are no restrictions on who may participate, so long as they have an interest in retired racing greyhounds. All topics related to greyhounds are open for discussion.

Who Owns the List?

This list is owned by Michael Sheldon. It is hosted on my own server, which is at a Phoenix-based co-location facility. I'm active in the promotion of retired racing greyhounds, and my wife and I currently have four of our own. I started this list to provide a general-purpose discussion list for AZ-based greyhound owners.

Rules:

The rules of the list are rather simple, mind your manners, and keep the discussion on the topic of greyhounds. Some specific rules follow:

• Personal attacks and insults, explicit or implied, whether about a listmember or non-listmember are expressly forbidden. Violators are subject to counseling, moderation, suspension, or expulsion entirely at the my discretion, with or without warning, depending on the perceived degree of transgression.
• You are not required to agree with everyone else's opinions. You are required to maintain a civil and respectful demeanor on this list. Disruptive behavior is not welcome, and will be dealt with as I deem appropriate. I will listen to your side of the story, but I want this list to be a desirable place to be.
• Extremely heated debates will sometimes occur. While this is expected, long-running debates that I deem to be detrimental to the health of the list may be terminated. In other words, say your piece, but don't try to grind your opposition down through sheer persistence. I have a short attention span and get bored with the same thing repeated over and over whether I agree with the position or not.
• Virus warnings, scam warnings, jokes of the day, etcetera are not appropriate for this list. There are plenty of lists out there just for those subjects. The only exception will be if a virus is being passed through this list. First-time offenders will be warned, subsequent offenses will result in the user being moderated.
• Minor wanderings into off-topic discussions will be tolerated if somewhat related to the main topic or a discussion in progress. Warnings will be issued, however, if the off-topic discussion lasts more than a few messages. Again, there are mailing lists on every conceivable subject, this one is about greyhounds.
• Plain-text messages are mandatory. HTML email increases messages sizes, can potentially carry viruses or privacy-inhibiting payloads, and causes potential problems for the archiving scripts. HTML messages will be rejected.
• Attachments will be held for moderator approval. If you want to send images to the list, that's fine, but they will be delayed until reviewed. Non-image attachments will always be rejected. Note that there is a 20kb message size limit for this list, larger messages/attachments are automatically rejected.
• Please use meaningful subject lines. Some folks get hundreds of email messages a day, and appreciate it when they can see what a message is about without opening it first. This also means that you should change the subject line when an existing discussion wanders onto a new topic.
• Currently, this list is not available in digest form. If the traffic reaches a point where this is desirable, digests will be made available.
